Offender - The iPhone App to Locate Sexual Offenders

screen shot of offender iphone appThinAir Wireless has created an app that many real estate professionals may find useful.  Offender is an application that searches around your current location or another address for registered sex offenders.

Since the app was released on June 2, 2009, they have seen over a million downloads.  There are 2 versions:  a limited free version and $1.99 for the full version.  The app has also cracked the iTunes top 10 list in popularity a few times.

Since residents already had access to this information, this could be a double-edged sword for you as a Realtor with full disclosure laws. Be careful of the knowledge that you claim to have in the palm of your hand.

Tina, I've seen this app.  Pretty amazing that we can access this information right on our phones.  I personally haven't downloaded it and prefer to tell clients the website where they can look up the info themselves.

Hi Tina!  We prefer to give clients the web addresses of the police department, school districts and access to the registered sexual predators list.  They can then decide for themselves what information they require.

Interesting, though...... I was in a GRI class and someone volunteered that their client was LOOKING for a neighborhood with a registered sexual offender.  They had one in the family and felt there would be more compassion/understanding if they located in that type of neighborhood.  Elizabeth
