Virginia Real Estate and Musings: The Dirtiest Hotels of 2010 - Virginia Beach has 2 in the Top 10! Ouch!

The Dirtiest Hotels of 2010 - Virginia Beach has 2 in the Top 10! Ouch!

trip advisor logoTrip Advisor came out today with their popular Dirtiest Hotels list for 2010.  I'm always curious to see who makes this list so I can be sure to avoid them.  Often, the hotels are in large cities San Francisco, New York, Chicago and the like.  Unfortunately, this year, 2 hotels in the Top 10 (actually, in the Top 5!) were right in my real estate market!

Here is the list:

1. Heritage Marina Hotel, San Francisco, California

2. Days Inn Eureka/Six Flags, Eureka, Missouri

3. Tropicana Resort Hotel, Virginia Beach, Virginia

4. Super 8 Virginia Beach/At the Ocean, Virginia Beach, Virginia

5. Quality Inn, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

6. New York Inn, New York City, New York

7. Parisian Hotel & Suites, Miami Beach, Florida

8. Capistrano Seaside Inn, Capistrano Beach, California

9. Desert Lodge, Palm Springs, California

10. Continental Oceanfront Hotel South Beach, Miami Beach, Florida

Hopefully, these hotels will clean up their act and get this big black spot off of the Virginia Beach resort area.  As one of my favorite clients said, "You don't have to have money to be clean".

Now that is not a good list to be on. They really must be dirty to make this list!

If they have the same info for reasturaunts I'm interested, Dirty hotels and resturaunts make for a bad trip.

Tina, who would have thought!  I can think of numerous other areas with hotels I'd think would have made the list before Virginia Beach...the anywhere along the New Jersey Turnpike!

We stayed at a hotel in Orlando a few years ago the was damp and had mildew. The icing on the cake was when we looked in the bathroom the next morning and found a huge roach.

Needless to say we checked out that day and went across the street to the Hampton Inn.

Tina...

I'd rather sleep outside than to stay in any of the hotels/motels in our part of the world. They all suck and they're filthy. Do you know hotels/motels rarely wash bed spreads, quilts, blankets and pillows? I'm so anal that just grosses me out :)

TLW...ROAR!

Tina,  Strange to hear a hotel named Tropicana on there.  Thanks for the info!  ~ JC

Tina,

The local news did a spot on the #2 hotel on the list and it was a real surprise.

The good thing is that Virginia Beach has a lot more to offer than these two duds. Hopefully this wake up call will be the push they needed to literally clean up their act.

So are you opening up your house to guests...or better yet there is a business opportunity for you.  A clean hotel.

I'll be sure not to visit the Quality Inn in PA ... I've stayed in the area before. Wow what a list NOT to make! ;)
